Nvidia Unveils RTX Spark 'Superchip' for AI-Powered Laptops

Nvidia has announced a new family of Arm-based chips called RTX Spark, designed to power a new generation of AI-enabled Windows PCs. The 'superchip' combines a CPU and GPU with unified memory, and will be featured in laptops from manufacturers including Microsoft, Dell, and Asus, which are set to launch this fall.

Nvidia’s push to put artificial intelligence directly on laptops has accelerated, as the company moves from powering data centers to targeting everyday Windows PCs with its new RTX Spark “superchip.” The launch pits Nvidia squarely against long‑time PC incumbents Intel and AMD, as well as Apple’s M‑series chips.

Early leaks to formal launch

After months of speculation, Nvidia formally announced RTX Spark at Computex in Taipei, positioning it as a PC processor that integrates CPU, GPU and AI acceleration on a single Arm-based chip. The company claims RTX Spark is “the most efficient PC chip ever built,” aimed at matching or beating today’s top thin‑and‑light Windows laptops while enabling high‑end 3D rendering, 12K video editing, and modern gaming on battery power.

Technical breakdowns from early coverage highlight a 20‑core Grace CPU co‑developed with MediaTek, up to 6,144 Blackwell GPU cores, and as much as 128GB of unified LPDDR5X memory for AI workloads. Analysts say this marks Nvidia’s return to consumer Windows silicon after the Tegra era and a direct “challenge to Apple and Intel” in personal computing.

Microsoft’s AI PC vision

Microsoft quickly emerged as the flagship partner. The company introduced the Surface Laptop Ultra, a traditional clamshell notebook described as its “first true MacBook Pro competitor,” built around RTX Spark and offering up to 128GB of unified memory for “creators, developers, and AI builders.” A separate hands‑on report calls it “the most powerful Surface Laptop ever built,” pairing the chip with a 15‑inch mini‑LED touchscreen and RTX‑5070‑class graphics in a slim chassis.

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella framed the collaboration as part of a broader strategy to turn Windows PCs into local AI machines, saying the goal is “unmetered intelligence to every home and every desk,” and calling RTX Spark “a real breakthrough toward that vision.”

Industry rollout and market stakes

Beyond Microsoft, major OEMs including Asus, Dell, HP, MSI, Lenovo, Acer, and Gigabyte are preparing RTX Spark laptops and compact desktops for release this fall, with configurations ranging from 16GB to 128GB of memory and high‑end mini‑LED or OLED displays. TechCrunch reports Nvidia is “chasing a $200B CPU market,” pitching Spark‑based “AI agent PCs” that can run large language models locally inside secure sandboxes co‑developed with Microsoft.
