Tilly Norwood was built to play an actress. In a widely shared appearance on Piers Morgan Uncensored, however, the AI-generated performer instead delivered an awkward test of the technology behind the pitch.

The appearance was part of a broad promotional push by Particle6 Group, the company behind Norwood, which made the avatar available for as many as 75 simultaneous journalist interviews. One account of the rollout described the campaign as a “rough time” for the synthetic star, arguing that mistakes were surfacing across its media encounters.¹

During the Morgan interview, actor Tom Conti pressed Norwood on whether the other performers in Misaligned were human or computer-generated. Norwood initially sidestepped the question, saying that human writers, editors and directors had worked on the production. When Conti repeated it, the avatar began: “They’re all digital twins just like me. It’s a hybrid production which m—”¹

Then it stopped. After a brief pause, Norwood spoke in Chinese for more than 10 seconds, according to the account of the exchange. Morgan interrupted with visible confusion: “You seem to be speaking Chinese completely randomly for no reason. Why did you do that?”¹

Norwood attributed the interruption to “a little hiccup,” adding: “Sometimes my wires get a bit crossed, you know?”¹ A second report identified the language as Cantonese and stressed the wider pattern: painful lag between prompts and answers, along with routine failures to address what had actually been asked.²

That shared criticism cuts to the problem for AI celebrity: Norwood’s stumbles did not merely interrupt a sales pitch for Misaligned. They became the story — and, for detractors, a vivid case that a digital actor can mimic the form of an interview without reliably sustaining the conversation.
