Apple’s Smart-Home Reboot Now Rests on Siri Delivering
Apple’s October 13 “Welcome home” event is expected to unveil a display-equipped HomeView hub and refreshed home gear, with LG devices alongside it. The real test is whether a newly AI-powered Siri can make the delayed push stick.
The clues arrived before Apple made anything official. Leaked renders were said to offer an early look at smart-home hardware tied to Apple and LG, raising expectations that Apple’s long-rumored home ambitions were about to move beyond software and speakers.1
Apple then set an October 13 event in New York for 9 a.m. ET under the pointed tagline, “Welcome home.” Reports say the company could use the event to introduce a display-equipped smart-home hub, an updated Apple TV and a refreshed HomePod mini. The same reporting says LG could join the launch with products including an indoor camera, video doorbell and thermostat.2
The central product, according to Bloomberg reporting relayed this week, is expected to be called HomeView: a Siri-powered screen with an A18 chip designed to control other connected devices. Two versions are reportedly planned—one for a countertop and another for wall mounting.3
That makes the timing more than a routine hardware refresh. Apple had reportedly hoped to launch its hub in 2025, but the plan slipped as its upgraded, AI-powered Siri was delayed. Siri’s AI features finally arrived last month in beta, clearing the way for this broader home push.2
Apple’s pitch is now easy to read: put Siri at the center, surround it with screens, speakers and practical home controls, and use LG’s hardware to fill out the ecosystem. But the stakes are equally plain. HomeKit and the HomePod have struggled to gain major traction; HomeView is being positioned as Apple’s “most serious bet on the smart home to date.”3 The October event will show the hardware. Whether Siri can make it feel indispensable is the harder question.
