Google’s Pixel 11 Bet Is Bigger AI, Bigger Storage and Higher Prices

Google has unveiled the Pixel 11 lineup with Gemini features, camera upgrades and doubled base storage. The company is asking buyers to absorb a $100 price rise in exchange for an AI-first pitch and more capable hardware.

Google’s Pixel 11 launch turns the smartphone upgrade into a straightforward bargain: pay $100 more, get more storage and a phone built to put Gemini at the center of everyday tasks. Whether that feels like value or simply a pricier baseline will define the reception.

At its Made by Google 2026 event, the company introduced four phones — the Pixel 11, Pixel 11 Pro, Pro XL and Pro Fold — alongside a broader push for Gemini across its devices. The standard model gets a thinner redesigned camera bar, while the Pro models add stronger durability claims; Google says the Fold is nearly 10% lighter and almost 1mm thinner than its predecessor.

The most immediate change for buyers is the price. Pixel 11 starts at $899 and Pixel 11 Pro at $1,099, each $100 above the prior generation. Google has removed the 128GB entry tier, however, making 256GB the new base storage; the standard phone retains 12GB of RAM, while Pro configurations reach 16GB and 1TB of storage.

Google’s counterargument is that the extra cost funds more than capacity. The new Tensor G6 chip is claimed to lift performance by up to 25%, while powering Gemini Intelligence, expanded Live Translate, camera-based Circle to Search and Rambler voice input. Camera upgrades include 30x zoom on Pixel 11, 120x zoom on the Pro line, and a new Magic Capture mode meant to prepare photos and videos for sharing with a tap.

Chief executive Sundar Pichai framed the launch less as a conventional handset refresh than an AI shift, calling Gemini “an intelligence system that gets things done for you.” That pitch is the point of the Pixel 11 — but so is the uncomfortable arithmetic: Google is betting buyers will see AI tools and doubled storage as enough to justify a higher floor.
