Final Fantasy VII Remake Trilogy to Conclude with 'Revelation'

Square Enix announced that the third and final installment of the Final Fantasy VII remake trilogy will be titled 'Final Fantasy VII Revelation.' The announcement, made during Summer Game Fest, set a release window of spring 2027 for the highly anticipated conclusion to the saga.

Square Enix has put an official end date on its ambitious Final Fantasy VII remake project, confirming that the trilogy will close with a third game titled Final Fantasy VII Revelation, due in spring 2027. The announcement caps years of speculation over how and when the reimagined saga would conclude.

The reveal came on June 5, 2026, during Geoff Keighley’s Summer Game Fest Live showcase, a two-hour event packed with major game announcements and 2027 release windows. Amid trailers for titles like Control Resonant and updates on Palworld, the confirmation of the trilogy’s finale stood out as one of the show’s headline moments.

Later that day, more detailed reporting outlined what players can expect from Revelation. Square Enix officially described it as “the third and final game in its Final Fantasy VII remake trilogy,” launching simultaneously on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X / S, and Nintendo Switch 2 in spring 2027. This cross-platform strategy marks a shift from the staggered releases of earlier entries.

Footage shown at the event and subsequent write-ups highlighted a greatly expanded scope. Players will be able to fly the Highwind airship, leap directly into an open world, and finally control fan favorites Vincent Valentine and Cid Highwind in battle, alongside challenges like the colossal Weapon bosses and visits to classic locations such as Wutai.

Square Enix is also introducing a “FITS” system — “Function Integrated Tactical Suitwear” — that lets players dress characters in armor sets with unique movesets, evoking traditional Final Fantasy job systems. The publisher frames Revelation as the climactic showdown against Sephiroth, with the planet on the brink of annihilation and “the scale… never been larger and the stakes… never been higher.”

For many fans who embraced Remake and Rebirth as bold reimaginings, Revelation now stands as the promised payoff: a vast, open-world finale aiming to settle a “legendary conflict” and close a yearslong experiment in revisiting one of gaming’s most influential stories.
