Pixel 11 puts Gemini front and center as $100 price hikes test Google fans
Google’s Pixel 11 lineup leans heavily on Gemini, camera tools and incremental refinements, while raising entry prices across its phones. The company is betting buyers will see more storage and AI convenience as enough to offset the higher bill.
Google has turned the Pixel 11 launch into a wager on intelligence over reinvention. Its newest phones bring sharper cameras and more Gemini, but every model arrives with a higher price tag.
At its Made by Google event, the company unveiled the Pixel 11, 11 Pro, 11 Pro XL and 11 Pro Fold, alongside the Pixel Watch 5 and Pixel Tag. Google’s pitch was clear: Gemini is no longer an add-on but the organizing principle of its hardware. CEO Sundar Pichai called the lineup “designed for Gemini Intelligence,” spotlighting Rambler voice input, Magic Capture and the HiLight notification glow.

The hardware changes are more measured. The standard Pixel gets a thinner all-glass camera bar, Tensor G6 chip, upgraded 48MP main camera and up to 30x zoom; the Pros add a brighter 3,600-nit display, faster Night Sight and 120x zoom. Google says the Fold is three times more durable than its predecessor.2 Across the range, software carries much of the excitement: Camera Looks alters image processing rather than merely laying a filter over a photo, while Creator Suite adds editing, teleprompter and audio tools aimed at smaller creators.3
That emphasis creates the central tension. The Pixel 11 starts at $899, the Pro at $1,099 and the Fold at $1,899 — each $100 above last year — although Google has eliminated the 128GB entry tier and begins at 256GB. The Pro also starts with 12GB of RAM, down from 16GB in the prior generation, unless buyers step up to higher storage tiers.2
Early hands-on coverage sees a polished refinement rather than a hardware rupture. Magic Capture, for instance, produced only one short clip and one photo during a brief test, while HiLight was judged too limited, for now, to justify a purchase on its own.2 Pixel 11 phones are due to ship August 20; buyers will soon decide whether Google’s AI-first future feels useful enough to command the premium.
