SpaceX has closed its $60 billion purchase of Cursor, turning a popular AI coding tool into a key part of its campaign to make Grok more useful—and more commercially formidable.

The path to Friday’s closing began in April, when SpaceX and Cursor announced a technology partnership that included an option for SpaceX to buy the startup. After SpaceX became public two months later, the companies said they would proceed with the acquisition. Cursor’s rationale was clear: SpaceX’s infrastructure, already rented to customers including Anthropic and Google, offers the startup the scale it could not easily build alone. Cursor said joining SpaceX gives it access to “the largest fleet of GPUs in the world.”¹

Friday’s announcement made the tie-up official. Cursor said it would join the SpaceXAI team to work on Grok, whose new AI-agent feature arrived this week.
