Marvel’s mutants are no longer waiting at the MCU’s door. At Disney’s D23 showcase, the studio put names and faces to its long-promised X-Men reboot—and cast Adam Driver as the threat waiting for them.
The rollout began with Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which introduced Sadie Sink as Jean Grey and, according to the reporting, finally brought Marvel’s mutants into the wider cinematic universe. That left D23 in Anaheim as the moment for a fuller reveal rather than another tease.1
Aug. 14, 2026 — D23: Marvel unveiled the principal cast for an untitled X-Men film scheduled for May 5, 2028. Sink’s Jean Grey will be joined by Kit Connor as Scott Summers, or Cyclops; Christopher Abbott as Charles Xavier; Samara Weaving as Emma Frost; Maya Boyd as Storm; and Inde Navarrette as Rogue. The central antagonist is Nathaniel Milbury, better known as Mister Sinister, played by Driver.1
The announcement turns years of anticipation into a concrete, if distant, production plan. One account described Marvel as being “finally ready to officially welcome the X-Men into the MCU,” while cautioning that a release date so far away could still move.2 That is the tension beneath the fanfare: Marvel has supplied a striking ensemble and an A-list villain, but not yet a title, plot or assurance that 2028 will hold.
May 5, 2028 — planned release: If the date stands, the film will mark the X-Men’s formal MCU debut after their gradual introduction through the latest Spider-Man. For now, the clearest promise is the matchup: Sink’s Jean Grey and a new mutant team facing Driver’s Mister Sinister.2
