Apple’s Smart Home Comeback Is Finally at the Door
Apple’s reported smart-home reset is being framed as both a long-awaited hardware push and a test of whether its newly upgraded Siri can succeed where HomeKit and HomePod struggled. Leaks and launch reports suggest Apple is widening the bet with LG-made accessories, not merely another speaker or set-top box.
Apple’s smart-home ambitions have spent years hovering between promise and postponement. Reports of a new display-equipped controller circulated for months, while a first set of purported renders offered an early look at Apple and LG-connected home devices.1
The turning point, according to reports, was Siri. Apple had reportedly hoped to launch a smart-home hub in 2025, but delays to its upgraded AI assistant pushed the plan back. The AI-enabled Siri finally arrived last month with a beta label, clearing the way for what looks like the company’s broadest home push in years.2
Apple then put a date on the moment: October 13, 9 a.m. ET, in New York. Its invitation carried the pointed tagline, “Welcome home.”2 The expected lineup includes a display hub, a refreshed HomePod mini and a new Apple TV—products that would put Apple’s voice assistant, entertainment box and home controls into one more coherent ecosystem.2
Another report identifies the hub as HomeView, a Siri-powered device with an A18 chip. It is said to come in countertop and wall-mounted versions, designed to control other connected devices.3 That would make it Apple’s most direct challenge yet in a category where its HomeKit platform and HomePod speaker have “failed to get much traction.”3
The more consequential shift may be beyond Apple’s own hardware. Reports say LG will join the rollout with a video doorbell, thermostat and indoor camera; another account also points to a smart lock.2 Apple is no longer simply knocking on the smart-home door. It appears ready to build out the whole front entrance.
